How to Thrive not just Survive! — the Dance of the Microbe and our environment

by Samantha Jewel

You may not realise it but the humble trillions of little critters that remain invisible to the human eye are the very driving force of your everyday life and evolution!

From triggering changes in our DNA to running the health of the gut and brain biome balance, the microbes that inhabit and surround us determine many levels of our existence on earth.

For the purposes of this small blog post, we are delving into the relationship between your gut biome ( microbe world in your belly ) and how it relates to the the very different biome in your brain that influences and interacts with your sex drive and all your hormones plus the world around you right down to how it all relates to the climate.

Despite the speed with which microbes proliferate and die, they are most sensitive to simple things like PH and the tone of your mind set.

Let’s make it simple, if for instance, you are raging with anger and your body floods with adrenaline, there will be a change in PH as the body prepares for fighting. No one feels particularly amorous when first angry — although I know it can turn into sexy energy it’s not the first feeling — but if it continues, over time, the stressor hormones flooding your bloodstream will affect the acid-alkaline balance and a cascade of other imbalances can trigger, allowing any number of delicate, microbial environments to flow out of balance. The main point here being, that blood balance and microbial balance are intimately tied together. Those same microbes, can cause a normally vital human to suffer sexual dysfunction and susceptibility to diseases (STD’s) whereas a normally healthy immune system ‘sees’ an invading microbe set and fights it on its own without you even knowing a microbe war and your immunity had engaged!

You can aid the body’s balancing ability and thus restore your desire for sex and your sexual function with certain nutrients found in vital healthy foods plus attention to the tone of your mind which plays a big part; “ it was already clear to 19th and early 20th century scientists like Charles Darwin, William James, and Walter Cannon” (neuro sceince) that strong emotions influenced the functioning of the gastrointestinal system”. Your thoughts emanate waveforms that also create and stop microbe growth and decay. Yes, thoughts exist as measureable waves in a very real way in our scientific world with many machine’s now sensitive enough to calibrate them and as physical as the screen before your eyes right now! They can affect many aspects of your health but more on that in future posts.

Most people think firstly of probiotics for health so fermented products like Kombucha and Kefir have flourished to support the rebalance of flora in the gut introducing microbe colonies together with a big focus on reducing sugars in the diet and reducing the acidic effects of meat especially to target reduction of stress and anxiety — a serious libido dampener that, unaddressed, will just perpetuate still more stress!

But key to all the above is the presence of healthy microbes in the food itself which, from the soil it’s grown in (or not as with hydroponic food), to the chemicals used to control microbe balance in monocultural agriculture, food processing and length of delivery from field to fork, to the way you may heat something in a microwave or deep fry in high temperatures killing all life giving microbes for ease and convenience. These very same essential microbes in the soil aid our health as they aid the plants we and animals eat that convert rock to colloidal absorbable minerals for mammals and gases (ie the CO2 and methane) back into the soil from the atmosphere to rebalance the climate!

But perhaps the key thing one should first consider, is how happy you are?

Dieting and food restrictions might make you more unhappy and your libido worse!

Exercise might be something you absolutely hate or have no time in the day to do; the mere idea of which sends you into a spiral of guilt and … more anxiety!

Still more libido killing thoughts!

As a suggestion, even if you have done the food, nutrient, water and exercise thing ( oh and good sleep!) start with feeling into your thoughts and seeing if you can find something to focus on that makes you feel happy. Anything! Traditional meditation might not be your thing, so focus on pleasure. That favourite song you played on road trips with your friends in summer or that song you danced naked under the moon to — alone and carefree, the feel of the sun on your skin, the breeze lifting a strand of sandy hair at an evening sunset, a waft of delicious perfume from a person you are attracted to, the curve of a body part…whatever comes to mind. Get your thoughts smiling and feel your body respond! And if all that proves impossible, try more naps! Sleep studies show even a 15 min power nap ( apparently the ideal is 26 mins per NASA astronaut studies) between 1–4 pm each day can do wonders to rest the flow of energy from the mind driving PH out and microbes in, descending into a war zone of imbalance and you into a battle to get things right. Sure fire libido killers, so a little nap might just save a lot of bother and dis-ease!

In short, focus on joyful thoughts, eat great food, keep the water flowing in and the processed sugars low, keep active and above all sleep and watch those sexy thoughts fire up like fairy lights to keep you on your game!
